Sue Hawes to head national medical assistant organization

Bangor Daily News | At its National Conference last September in Salt Lake City, Utah, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) elected Sue Hawes, Dean of Education of Beal College, as its president.
The AAMA is dedicated to providing educational, networking, and credentialing opportunities for its members and enhancing the medical assisting profession as a whole. Hawes sees membership as offering great value, especially for those about to enter the field:
“I know that at Beal we pride ourselves in graduating the most sought-after Medical Assistants in the area. They graduate with the knowledge and confidence to be successful in their field. The American Association of Medical Assistants takes these graduates, and with further knowledge and experience on the Chapter, State and National levels, elevates them further in the profession.”
Hawes’s involvement with the AAMA goes back more than 25 years, ever since she earned her Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting at Beal. During that time, as she pursued additional degrees and credentials, she maintained her membership in the association and served it in many capacities, from acting in various local, state, and national chapters and task forces to serving as Trustee, Secretary Treasurer, and Vice President.
As her relationship with the AAMA grew, so too did Hawes’s involvement at Beal College, where she has been teaching since 2001. Her course-load has spanned three programs: Health Information Technology, Medical Assisting, and Medical Administrative Specialist. In 2017, she was advanced to Dean of Education.
Now, as President of the AAMA, Hawes sees herself in a position to help steward the organization that has meant so much to the careers and lives of those in the medical field: “Serving as President has brought many opportunities to assist in steering the organization and promoting our position in the healthcare industry.”
